■GAME セガのプライベートショーで新型筐体発表

業務用新作内見会セガ・プライベートショー2005 "秋"開催

アフターバーナーとかバーチャ5とか、思わずソフトばかりに目が行きますが、実際の目玉はセガ製の新型ビデオ筐体です。

実はセガ製ゲーム筐体のうち、全国のゲームセンターでも普及率の高いアストロシティやブラストシティのブラウン管修理が、ブラウン管の生産中止によるパーツ欠品でほどんど行われていない状況になっています。これを受けて業界では「いつ液晶ベースの筐体に移行するのか」というのが注目の的となっておりましたが、今回の新筐体の発表でひと安心といった感じではないでしょうか。

セガ以外でもアルゼがスリムストリート

という液晶筐体をショー出展していましたが、液晶の質が悪いので弾幕系シューティングはプレイが厳しく、その上筐体の足元スペースが非常に狭くて座り心地が良くなかったりと、実用には程遠い出来だったりしました。

液晶画面筐体はメンテナンス性の向上と、省電力化に一気に貢献するだけでなく、省スペース化が最大のメリットではないかと思われます。この新型筐体が普及すれば、インベーダーに代表されたフラットテーブル筐体から、現在のようなセミアップライト筐体になった時のような、劇的な変化がゲームセンターに訪れそうです。
